Explore the new Share The Heritage trail to know the influence of African Americans on Daytona Beach. The trail includes some of the well-known African-American historical spots like the Jackie Robinson Ballpark and Bethune-Cookman University.
Visit the home and gravesite of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune in the ground of Bethune-Cookman University. Take a guided tour to learn about her important contribution as an educator, civil rights leader, and advisor to five U.S. presidents. Dr. Bethune, the 15th child of freed slaves, founded a school with only 5 students and an investment of $1.50. Now the school has grown into a nationally recognized university.
Explore the numerous historical markers inside Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Find the statue of Robinson near the stadium's entrance. At the time when black and white fans were not treated the same off the field, baseball legend Jackie Robinson broke the ‘color barrier' by playing his first spring training game here in 1946.
Visit the Museum of Arts & Sciences to witness one of the finest African art collections in the Southeast. Discover a collection of 130 pieces of rare Ashante gold, tribal and ceremonial objects, including masks, ritual ornaments, and sculpted figures.
