Cici & Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, Where Florida Art & History Comes Alive

Cici And Hyatt Brown Museum Of Art

Aside from its internationally acclaimed Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach has many fascinating tourist attractions, including the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. If you have an eye for art, then it’s the perfect place for you to visit. The museum is open to the public at the Museum of Arts & Sciences.

You’ll be able to feast your eyes on the impressive collection of paintings beautifully done in oil and watercolor. They’re very much a blast from the past, as the history of Florida is perfectly told through the more than 2,600 paintings on display, some of which were created as early as the 1800s. This is all thanks to the artists who took time to capture the beauty of the Sunshine State’s geography and history in their masterpieces.

The Permanent Gallery

The most significant paintings are displayed in the Permanent Gallery. You will find this collection of Florida art on the main floor and upstairs mezzanine of the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. Its aesthetic and technical qualities are what set this artwork apart from the others. Most of all, the artwork’s historical focus adds an extra layer of interest.

The Florida Weather Gallery

This gallery presents the varied weather conditions in Florida State. The artists carefully depicted the dramatic changes of weather in just one day. As you can see within the paintings on display, the subject, and how they are presented, resonates a mixed feeling of living in a place with rapid changes in weather.

The Naïve Florida Gallery

As the name suggests, paintings in this gallery are outputs of more inexperienced artists who were not given any formal training or technique for that matter. Hence, the result is very natural and simple yet also pleasing to the eye. Displays change seasonally, but currently on display are prehistoric cave artworks, regional and tribal paintings, and even some early artifacts.

The Lost Colony Gallery

Paintings in this gallery were done in St. Augustine during the mid-20th century. These artworks are part of a collection that belongs to a group who became the South’s biggest art colony. These art creations are regarded as among those most significant in American regional art.

The Florida Communities Gallery

Artwork in this gallery was created back in mid-19th century to the latter part of the 20th century. They highlight the lifestyles of people living in typical Florida communities with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and personalities.

The Volusia County Gallery

Within this gallery are works of art associated with the famous Daytona Beach area. These are the products of both renowned and promising artists who were commissioned to show the common situations and people living in Volusia County during the last quarter of the 19th century and beyond.

If you haven’t been to the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, you’ll want to make sure it gets on your list of things to do, so you can behold the amazing works of art that call these galleries home. In addition to their signature pieces, the museum also features changing exhibitions with Florida themes, conference rooms for rent, a gift shop and a cafe with outdoor seating.
