Ruins Of The Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens

#1 – Enjoy an afternoon tour at the Casements.

The Casements is a mansion and residence of former winter millionaire and famous American oil magnate, John D. Rockefeller. Today, the Casements is now used as the cultural center and museum of the City of Ormond Beach. Free tours are offered from Mondays to Fridays at 10AM to 2:30PM and on Saturday mornings.

#2 – Discover the ruins of the Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens.

The Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens is a 19th century cane sugar plantation in north central Florida but was destroyed during the Second Seminole War. The ruins is now part of the Dawnlawton Sugar Mill Gardens.

The gardens were once home to the 1940s theme park, Bongoland with life-sized dinosaur sculptures, a giant ground sloth, a gazebo and many more. Open daily and admission is free.

#3 – Indulge yourself to beautiful exhibits at the Southeast Museum of Photography

The Southeast Museum of Photography is the only museum in Florida dedicated exclusively to photography. Carrying more than 3,500 permanent photograph collections including the works of Harry Callahan, Gordon Parks, Edward Steichen, Robert Rauschenberg among others.  The museum is open Tuesdays thru Saturdays. #4 – Bask in the sun at the beautiful 900-acre North Peninsula State Park

Take delight in more than 3 miles of pristine Atlantic beaches at the North Peninsula State Park. Enjoy the numerous activities the park has to offer including an afternoon swim, hiking on the two-mile Coastal Strand Trail, surf fishing, a family picnic surrounded with a beautiful natural environment, or shelling, among other exciting things you can do.

#5 – Find out how chocolates are made at the Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory

The Angell & Phelps Chocolate has been a Daytona Beach tradition since 1925. Angell & Phelps is a small candy factory. Take a free, 20-minute guided tour and find out how candies and chocolates are made. And at the end of the tour, indulge yourself to some free samples.

#6 – Plan a visit and learn more about the legacy of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune

Built in 1915 at the campus of Bethune-Cookman University, The Mary McLeod Bethune Foundation Home & Gravesite is one of the richest resources of African-American historical and cultural exhibits in Florida. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune is a former civil rights leader, educator and founder of the Bethune-Cookman University.
