What to Expect at the 2018 Daytona 500
The quest for supremacy in the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series begins this February 18 during the Daytona 500, held at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Labeled as “The Great American Race”, Daytona 500 is certainly an action-packed sports event that you don’t want to miss, especially on this President’s Day Weekend dates.
Daytona 500 serves as the season-opening of the Cup series. It has been the tradition since 1982 and this year marks its 60th edition of staging a major racing event in the world’s only motorsports stadium, where the best car racers vying for the coveted title are gathered. High speeds, fearless figures and remarkable moments in this significant race show are guaranteed, and it has one of the largest purses.
There will be plenty of qualifying races that will showcase the drivers’ skills, speed and grit to outwit each other in the renowned 2.5-mile tri-oval and it’s 31-degree banking. The champion will receive the Harley J. Earl Trophy while the winning car will be displayed in the museum and gallery called Daytona 500 Experience adjacent to Daytona International Speedway.
Last year, Kurt Thomas Busch dominated the race and emerged as the champion. Will he defend his title this year? That remains to be seen. As last year’s champ, you can guarantee competitors will have beating him in mind. We can all expect some tough competition. Racing fans will also be delighted to know that Dale Earnhardt Jr., winner of the Most Popular Driver Award for 15 consecutive years (2003-2017), will also join this year’s event. The two-time Daytona 500 winner will serve as the Grand Marshal.
Aside from the actual race, there are plenty of off-track exciting events to keep the fans busy and enjoy every single minute of this special weekend. Sing along with the Rascal Flatts, a country band, who will perform their greatest hits prior to the race show. Make sure you have UNOH Fanzone/Pre-Race Access to get a chance to meet up close and personal with the car racers during the autograph session, or else you’ll miss out on this great opportunity for more memories.
Experience how it feels to step onto Gatorade Victory Lane, have a closer look at the Harley J. Earl Trophy and pose like a champion for that perfect selfie. Boost your chances of winning a hot lap, a chance to celebrate with the champion and an access to the driver’s meeting. To make it more exciting, Daytona 500 is also giving away an all-expenses paid trip to the 2019 Daytona 500 to one lucky winner.
