Trade the Classroom for the Coast

Take learning beyond four walls with a homeschool getaway to Daytona Beach.

Who says school has to happen at home? Pack the books, bring the laptops and turn a few days by the Atlantic into a family getaway filled with learning, exploring and plenty of time to play.

Your Classroom Just Got a Better View

Start the morning with breakfast and a little schoolwork from your room or a quiet spot around the resort. Once the assignments are finished, let Daytona Beach become the lesson plan.

From marine biology and astronomy to art, history and space exploration, there are plenty of ways to turn a few days away into experiences the whole family can learn from.

  • Coastal Discovery

Check in, park the car and settle into your home by the ocean. Once everyone is unpacked, head straight for the beach and let the Atlantic become the first classroom of the trip.

Take a walk along the shore and encourage little learners to look for shells, observe the waves and tides, and spot local birds and marine life. Then switch from learning mode to vacation mode with an afternoon at the pool.

For your first night, keep things easy with a family dinner at Azure Oceanfront Dining. Then head outside at dusk to gather around the beachfront fire pits and roast s’mores under the stars.

  • Ocean & Environmental Science

Start the morning with complimentary breakfast for the kids before fitting in a little schoolwork and heading to nearby Ponce Inlet.

Visit the Marine Science Center to discover Florida's marine ecosystems, sea turtles, seabirds and conservation efforts. Continue to Ponce Inlet Lighthouse to explore the history and science behind navigation and Florida's maritime heritage.

Back at The Shores, grab the resort bikes and enjoy a family ride before winding down for the evening. If there's still energy to spare, put that included arcade credit to good use at Cosmic Sands Arcade.

Learning inspiration: Marine biology, conservation, navigation and Florida history.

  • Space & STEM

It's an early field-trip day, so grab coffee, quick bites and snacks to go from the Marketplace before hitting the road for Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Spend the day discovering rockets, spacecraft, NASA history and the science behind space exploration while bringing STEM lessons to life outside the textbook.

After a full day out, there's no need to plan another adventure. Head back to The Shores for a relaxed evening by the ocean. Parents can stop by Happy Hour for drinks and appetizers while everyone reconnects and shares their favorite discoveries from the day.

Learning inspiration: Space, engineering, physics, technology and American history.

  • Creativity & Curiosity

    Wildlife & Conservation

Slow things down with a family morning yoga session overlooking the ocean, followed by breakfast and a little schoolwork before heading to the Daytona Aquarium & Rainforest Adventure.

Spend the afternoon discovering animals from land and sea, from sharks and stingrays to reptiles, tropical birds and rainforest wildlife. Kids can get even closer through interactive touch tanks and educational programs while learning about different species, habitats and conservation.

Then head back to The Shores and make the rest of the day all about the beach. Reserve an oceanfront cabana, take a dip in the pool and give everyone a few hours to simply enjoy being on vacation.

Finish with something sweet from Shorely Sweets.

Learning inspiration: Marine biology, animal habitats, biodiversity and conservation.

  • Florida History & Culture

Enjoy a leisurely morning before setting out for a day trip to St. Augustine, where centuries of history become today's lesson plan. Explore historic streets, architecture and landmarks while learning about the people and events that helped shape Florida.

After a full day of sightseeing, return to The Shores and leave the car parked for the night. Settle in for dinner at Azure, overlooking the ocean, and let someone else take care of dinner while the family talks about everything you've discovered throughout the week.

Learning inspiration: American history, architecture, geography and storytelling.

  • Local Culture & Family Time

No big field trip today, just one last lesson, Daytona Beach style.

After breakfast, head to the beach for a surf lesson with Pure Life Surf School and let the whole family learn something new together. From finding your balance to catching your first wave, it's a fun way to experience Daytona's surf culture firsthand.

Afterward, cool off at the pool or relax on the beach.

And, if the timing is right, finish your Daytona adventure with a little local excitement. Catch a race or event at Daytona International Speedway, cheer on the Daytona Tortugas at a baseball game, or stay right where you are and enjoy one last afternoon by the ocean.

Because every great school week deserves a little recess.

Experience inspiration: Sports, local culture, outdoor recreation and family fun.
